Dust II Map Guide

Desert military base

The most iconic map in Counter-Strike history. A sun-scorched Middle Eastern military outpost defined by Long A, Mid double doors, and the classic Tunnels/B push. Tight angles, wide chokes, and decades of refined meta make Dust II the definitive CS2 experience.

Dust II Layout & Bombsites

Two-site bomb defusal layout. Bombsite A: Long corridor + Catwalk approach, Goose cover near the bomb. Bombsite B: Tunnels entrance, back plat, Window from mid. Mid connects via Doors / X-Box.

History & Lore

First released in 2001 for Counter-Strike 1.1 by David Johnston ('Cliffe'), Dust II is the map that taught the world how Counter-Strike is played. Remade for CS:GO in 2017, reimagined for Source 2 in 2023, it remains the map every player knows by heart.

Core Tactics — CT & T Side

CT side: hold Long with an AWP, stack two on B for early info, rotate via Mid. T side: split A with Long + Catwalk smokes, hit B fast through Tunnels with flashes over dark. Mid control wins rounds on both sides.

Pro Scene

Competitive History on Dust II

Dust II has appeared in every CS Major since the MLG Columbus 2016 era. Notable Major moments include coldzera's jumping AWP no-scope on de_mirage then on Dust II in the 2016 ELEAGUE run, NAVI's Major winning run at PGL Stockholm 2021 featuring s1mple domination on Dust II, and FaZe's PGL Antwerp 2022 title. The map remains the most picked-and-banned in Best-of-3 veto due to its razor-thin balance.

CS2 Source 2 Meta

Dust II CS2 Meta Notes

CS2 Source 2 Dust II added subtle lighting updates, smoother textures, and improved molotov-line-of-sight at Long A. Smokes now behave with volumetric rendering so one-ways and smoke-through-doors plays have been refined. The A-site double-doors smoke has returned to pro-play after meta adjustments in the Valve patch cycle.

Economy

Dust II Economy & Buy Rounds

T side: force-buy rifles on round 3 if pistol lost (4500+ in bank). P250 + Kevlar is the strongest eco vs AK rushes on B. CT side: anchor A with AWP investment early, full-save if round 2 lost, scout + Deagle on eco vs T mid takes.
